Guy Gervais Dansou, a Beninese storyteller and actor, is a multi-talented artist. He is also a writer, who addresses young people to get them thinking, encourage them and pass on African traditions, particularly those of Benin. Guy Gervais Dansou is deeply committed to helping young people in precarious situations, and is convinced of the power of theatre and writing as a way out.
Born in Houéyogbé, Guy Gervais Dansou is a Beninese actor who trained at the International Theatre School in Benin, where he specialised in directing and reading stories, as well as in traditional dance. He began writing children's stories in 2021 with his collection Kokou, le pauvre généreux (Kokou, the poor generous), which was acclaimed by the critics as soon as it came out. Creator of several courses, workshops and festivals for young people in and out of school, in Benin and elsewhere, such as Togo.
Residency project :
Guy Gervais Dansou's residency is set up with the cultural centre Le Château de l'Esparrou (Languedoc-Roussillon). The aim of the residency is to explore children's stories, written and told, in particular through a collection of 12 texts. It will culminate in an end-of-residency show in February 2024. The show will be accompanied by outreach workshops for a range of audiences on the theme of storytelling.
