Écumes is a programme for collective critical reflection and cooperation between artists. Intergenerational and welcoming a diversity of practices for eight months in Marseille, it stands out in particular for the quality of its exchanges and knowledge sharing, where interdependence is a source of richness that defuses the logic of competition in the visual arts in favour of the creation of the common good.
Fourteen artists will be welcomed for the 2025-2026 session. Écumes is organised around collective sessions, individual meetings and public events. Écumes also offers workshops with actors from the French and international art scene, as well as visits to venues and meetings with professionals in the region. Open studios provide visibility for ongoing research processes, and a support fund is available to assist with international mobility projects.
Applications are open until 22 May 2025 inclusive!
Écumes is supported by Dos Mares, the Ministry of Culture, SNCF Gares & Connexions and Transverso Art Fonds.
An artistic and curatorial project founded in Marseille, Dos Mares has been an international art research centre since 2013. Dos Mares implements a range of tailor-made initiatives to support the professional development of artists and art workers. The research centre draws on the thinking of artists and curators Ron Reyes Sevilla and Laurent Le Bourhis, whose field of research is precisely the art ecosystem itself. Complementing the art research and creation programmes, Dos Mares' initiatives enable everyone to explore the complexity of professional artistic activity and imagine a relevant position in our changing societies.
Dos Mares is a member of Arts en résidences - Réseau national, the Regional Chamber of Social and Solidarity Economy Enterprises of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Miramar Méditerranée, Réseau Ressources Arts Visuels, Sud Tiers-lieux and Provence Art Contemporain.
