The artist is a member of the ensemble Rubens Rosa.
Sara Maria Fantini developed an early interest in medieval music, studying lute and chitarrino techniques under Peppe Frana. She has taken part in numerous masterclasses held by some of the greatest performers of medieval music, including Crawford Young, Marc Lewon, Guillermo Pérez, Patrizia Bovi and Francis Biggi, and is currently studying for a Master's degree in lute performance at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, under the direction of Marc Lewon. Since 2012, she has performed in Italy and Europe with various ensembles. In 2016, with Ensemble Aubespine, she won the Italia Medievale prize.
She regularly collaborates with members of the Micrologus ensemble and the Umbra Lucis ensemble, with the Centro Studi Europeo di Musica Medievale ‘Adolfo Broegg’ and several historical dance associations. In 2018, she launched the Fragmenta project, recording the album ‘Vai lavar cabelos na fontana fría’, as part of the European project ‘GEOARPAD III. Piloto I-LÍRICA’ in collaboration with University of Santiago de Compostela. After a BA in Medieval Literature and a Master's in Musicology, she obtained a Doctorate in Romance in Romance Philology at the University of Siena, under joint supervision with the École Pratique des Hautes Etudes (EPHE) in Paris.
