Chaminna Myria Sakina/

Dancer

Chaminna Myria Sakina, known as Chacha, is a dancer from Diego-Suarez in northern Madagascar.

From the age of 16, Chacha began to learn hip hop and break dance on her own. She then gradually opened up to other dance styles, notably contemporary dance.

In 2013, after obtaining her baccalauréat, she decided to go further and joined local groups in her home town. She took part in a number of courses with renowned figures such as Kane Wung (Hip Hop newstyle), Mohamed le Vagabond (Break dance), Rabbah (House dance), Funky Foued (Popping), Ali Ahamed (Choreographic creation and New jack swing), and Up the Rap Madagascar (Choreographic creation and events, including the Talenta competition).

In 2016, she took part in the Stritarty festival as well as the Battle Crew 1st and 2nd editions, and the Battle Kill the Beat in France.

In 2018, she spent six months in Brittany as a civic service volunteer with Hip Hop New School, an association that promotes hip hop culture. This experience strengthened her teaching and creative skills.

On her return to Madagascar, keen to share her experiences, she created the first urban dance festival, ‘Godié Hype Hope’, held every two years in Diego-Suarez. She also co-founded an association of dancers that organises a number of events in the city, including ‘Urban Love’ and ‘Hallo’ Concept’, and is working with the Alliance Française to organise a dance battle as part of the Stritarty festival in 2019. That same year, she set up her own cultural association, KOLOTURE, and launched herself into the world of creation. This association enabled her to tour Madagascar's Alliances Françaises to present the plays VOAZIMBA and KILEMAKO.

In 2020, Chacha took part in ‘La Nuit des Idées’ and the show ‘Nous et les Autres’. She also opened her own dance studio, LOKO, where she mainly teaches Hip Hop. Loko is a multi-disciplinary cultural association working in the field of art and culture. It invests socially in young people by organising dance events (private lessons and battles, a competition known as CALL OUT), exhibitions and workshops to promote up-and-coming artists.

In 2023, she was part of the piece ‘Betro Elektriky’, made up of four dancers from each province of Madagascar, produced by PROJET DIHY and presented at the TEMPS FORT DANSE festival organised by the IFM. As a choreographer, her first piece, performed by herself and a dancer from Diego-Suarez, was presented at the Stritarty festival and the Mitsaka festival in Tamatave, as well as during a tour of the Alliances Françaises in Madagascar.

 Residency project:

Chacha's artistic approach is to integrate hip-hop movements with contemporary and traditional elements. Her aim is to convey emotions, struggles and triumphs that transcend cultural and linguistic boundaries. Through her performances, she tells personal and universal stories, inviting audiences to reflect on the universal human experience. She explores themes of identity, resilience and human connection, fusing tradition and innovation to communicate strength, fragility, tension and liberation.
