The sound artist, composer and DJ Lara Sarkissian is originally from San Francisco. Her artistic productions and techniques are put to use in both installations and films. She likes to explore, experiment and compare her works to other worlds.
Lara Sarkissian studied at the University of California, specialising in new media and cinema. She has explored in particular family stories, diasporas and social issues in general. In 2013, she worked on the archives of the Armenian genocide, documented by Danish missionaries. Her short films, screened at numerous film festivals, were also shown at the Museum of Modern Art in Moscow in 2017. She has worked on both shorts and feature films as a producer, hosts radio programmes and workshops, is the co-founder of a record label and a participant in numerous artistic events. Her international reputation has taken her to Brussels, Paris, Sydney and New York.
Lara Sarkissian’s electronic music is experimental, with her scores created through sound collages, and her creative experimentations use montage, remixes and live music. She has recently worked with other artists in Berlin and Karlsruhe on 360-degree immersive installations, with inclusive and spatialised sound coupled with visual pieces, projections and live performances.
During her residency at the Dominicains de Haute-Alsace, Lara Sarkissian collaborated with other artists, using one of her own compositions as a starting point and uniting sound and vision to create a single audiovisual work.
