Manifesto of the European network Centres culturels de rencontre / Vivify the heritage of tomorrow

Marion Auvin

In 2023, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the ACCR wanted to re-examine the values and missions of the network in order to better reaffirm them for the years to come. Texts, archive images and personal accounts were collected to produce the ACCR manifesto Vivifier le patrimoine de demain (Vivify the heritage of tomorrow).

Driven for 50 years by experimentation and the daily practice of cross-disciplinarity and multidisciplinarity, the ACCR and the network of Centres culturels de rencontre are committed to an inclusive heritage that listens to local communities and civil society.

The team is delighted to share this publication with you, which highlights the innovative vision of heritage embodied by the network of CCRs and the range of initiatives put in place to bring this heritage to life in the light of contemporary concerns and desires.

From the founders of the network to those working within the CCRs today, each account reflects a sincere commitment to a heritage that is evolving, questioning and adapting. Giving the floor to the teams on the ground to present the projects specific to their structure allows us to see the great diversity that is characteristic of the CCR network.

These contemporary challenges echo the words of Antoine Bernard, director of André Malraux's cabinet: "Safeguarding heritage is not an end in itself, it is only the condition for revitalising heritage, which is the only real objective. This implies reintegrating heritage elements into the mainstream of life as far as possible.

We would like to extend our warmest thanks to all those who contributed to the publication of this book.
