Septentrionales is an annual programme of travelling eco-conscious residencies across northern Europe (Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland). As part of La Fabrique des résidences, this programme is the fruit of collaboration between the Instituts français in these four countries. This research and exploration residency is open to all artistic disciplines.
The call for applications opened on 26 January and closes on 26 February. The programme is open to French and foreign artists who have been resident in France for at least five years.
The residency is intended to be a long-distance journey (the artist travels by train, planes are out of the question) through the vastness and tranquillity of the Nordic landscapes, scheduled to run from 15 August to 15 October 2024.
The residency is the journey: an immersive experience, where the premise is clearly that movement can nourish creation through observation and contemplation. During their journey, the artists are invited to immerse themselves in the richness, tranquillity and immensity of the Nordic landscapes, between fjords, towns and mountains. Several stops (varying in length depending on the country) are planned during the journey to enable the artist to meet local cultural players. The itinerary is devised by the Nordic French Institutes in conjunction with the artist. The artist will produce a digital travel diary.
