The situation is urgent: the artists who exhibited at the Institut du Monde Arabe are in danger in Gaza. Cultural institutions and establishments have joined forces to organize the shelter and temporary residence of these artists on French territory, in artistic residencies, art schools and cultural programs.
Today, we need your help to ensure that they are welcomed in dignified conditions, so that they can continue to live and create.
Together with the artists of Gaza, share and participate in this fundraising campaign.
A crowdfunding campaign to offer Gaza artists and their dependents a temporary stay in France under the umbrella of PAUSE program, an initiative spearheaded by the Collège de France to support scientists and artists in perilous situation. These artists were featured prominently in the exhibition at the Arab World Institute « What Palestine brings to the world » in 2023 and several are currently part of the “Sahab Museum” by the collective Hawaf, presented in the current exhibition at Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
This scheme is today the only solution to allow these artists to leave Gaza. It enables artists to spend 1 year in France in adequate living and working conditions and contribute through art residencies, research fellowships or cultural programs hosted by partner public and private institutions. This in turn entitles artists to a talent visa in France which avoids the "refugee status" channel, which most artists do not wish to apply for (since it implies that they will not be able to return home).
Organized by Circulaire - Jeanne Barret, this crowdfunding campaign has a dual objective:
- Fund the emergency evacuation of artists and their dependents, in partnership with SINGA and French authorities.
- Fund 1-year in art residency in host institutions, complementing financial support by PAUSE.
The time is now to help the few we can carry their important work of art, hope and memory.
